A last-second field goal from Atlanta Falcons’ kicker Younghoe Koo cost us a nice accumulator last week. I won’t be forgetting that heartbreaking loss for a fair amount of time…

The great thing about the NFL is that we go again seven days on and I’ve lined up a simple but enticing treble to get stuck into. Hopefully there won’t be any late dramatics to spoil the party this time. Let’s get into the Week 6 bets.

Seattle Seahawks (+2.5) @ Cincinnati Bengals (-2.5)

Kick-off: 6pm Sunday BST

Statistics will have you believe that the under is the sensible bet to have in this match-up. Seattle and Cincinnati defences have both allowed an average of 22.8 points per game so far this season (44.6pts combined), while their offences have totalled 27.8 and 16.6 points per game respectively (44.4pts combined). The total points line is set at 45, which is obviously a little higher than both of those figures.

However, this just feels like a potential shootout that could go down to the wire. The Seahawks, who will be fresh off a bye week, have a group of explosive playmakers on offence - DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Kenneth Walker to name a few - while they still carry plenty of injuries on the other side of the ball, so should prove vulnerable to quickfire attacks at their secondary.

The Bengals finally showed signs of life in last week’s game against the Cardinals after an awful start to the season. Joe Burrow looked nimble despite his calf issue and he was fully zoned in on star receiver Ja’Marr Chase, who backed up his claims of ‘always being open’ with 15 catches for 192 yards and three touchdowns. If they keep feeding the former LSU star, they will plot their way to the endzone numerous times and help the points tally rise.

Prediction: Over 45 Total Points @ 10/11

Detroit Lions (-3) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+3)

Kick-off: 9.25pm Sunday BST

Different game but a similar selection as I’m taking the over between the Lions and Bucs. I had my doubts about Detroit’s offence last week with Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon-Ra St Brown ruled out due to injury, but they were quite clearly misplaced as they put up 42 points without having to dig deep in the playbook. With St Brown set to return to the field, who am I to say they can’t achieve that number once again?

The Buccaneers are going to have to match Detroit’s scoring prowess and I don’t trust Baker Mayfield as much as the next guy, but they have had two weeks to prepare for this game and offensive coordinator Dave Canales is sure to have drawn up some new and impactful plays to take advantage of the Lions’ flaws.

Mike Evans and Chris Godwin are averaging five catches each per game and will always be a much-feared duo given their size and strength.

I don’t believe this game will be as entertaining as the Bengals and Seahawks game listed above, but a final scoreline around the 27-21 mark looks perfectly feasible.

Prediction: Over 43.5 Total Points @ 10/11

Philadelphia Eagles (-7) @ New York Jets (+7)

Kick-off: 9.25pm Sunday BST

The Eagles and Jets have met each other 12 times in the NFL under their current guises. All 12 games have gone the way of Philadelphia, including a 33-18 victory back in the 2021/22 season. Of course, the personnel is completely different on both teams than for any of those games but a trend like that shouldn’t be ignored.

If that trip down memory lane hasn’t convinced you that the Eagles have the Jets’ number, maybe returning to the present will. Philly are 5-0 this season and have looked exceptional on offence, even if Devonta Smith and AJ Brown have gone missing from the box score in a game or two.

The Eagles rank second in offensive yards per game, second in rushing yards per game and fifth in points per game, while their defence has proved solid in clutch situations. New York, on the other hand, have lost three of their four games since Aaron Rodgers’ injury and could be without star corner Sauce Gardner, who suffered a knee injury last week.

Zach Wilson isn’t a premier starting quarterback in this league and, although Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall can change a game with their speed and agility, I’m taking Philadelphia to win by two or more scores (eight or more points) in this match-up.

Prediction: Eagles -7 @ 10/11
