Weekend Premier League Tips: Gunners to go through the gears

24 August 2023

We have another action-packed weekend of Premier League action to look forward to, so here is our preview of five games taking place on Saturday and Sunday.

Bournemouth vs Tottenham Hotspur

Kick-off: 12.30pm Saturday, TNT Sports

Tottenham have made a bright start under Ange Postecoglou, whose attack-minded style of play has already won over the supporters. Spurs are far from the finished article but there is optimism around the club once more.

Bournemouth took the lead against Liverpool last time out but ultimately fell to a 3-1 defeat. There have been some positive signs in Andoni Iraola’s first two matches at the helm, but the Cherries are still pretty open defensively and that could cost them here.

Prediction: Tottenham to win at 1.99

Arsenal vs Fulham

Kick-off: 3pm Saturday

Arsenal had to dig deep to see off Crystal Palace on Monday night, and Mikel Arteta was delighted with the doggedness they showed after Takehiro Tomiyasu was sent off. Provided they keep 11 men on the field, this should be a more straightforward encounter.

Fulham have endured a difficult summer and they were soundly beaten by Brentford in their most recent outing. Arsenal should prove too strong for their fellow Londoners on Saturday.

Prediction: Arsenal to win both halves at 2.34

Brentford vs Crystal Palace

Kick-off: 3pm Saturday

Brentford were fantastic in that 3-0 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage. The big fear this season was that Ivan Toney would be sorely missed, but Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo have stepped up to the plate so far.

Mbeumo is now the main goal threat for Thomas Frank’s team, both in open play and from the penalty spot. Do not be surprised if he scores for a third game running when Crystal Palace come to town this weekend.

Prediction: Bryan Mbeumo to score any time at 3

Manchester United vs Nottingham Forest

Kick-off: 3pm Saturday

Manchester United have been unconvincing in both of their games in 2023/24, so Nottingham Forest should not fear this trip to Old Trafford. True, Steve Cooper’s side have an abysmal away record since their promotion to the top flight, but they could cause United one or two problems here.

The Red Devils have looked vulnerable in transition, particularly through the centre of the pitch. Forest are a counter-attacking team and they should have chances to find the net.

Prediction: Both teams to score at 1.94

Sheffield United vs Manchester City

Kick-off: 4.30pm Sunday, Sky Sports

It has been a tough start to life back in the Premier League for Sheffield United, who lost to Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest and must now face the best team in the country.

Pep Guardiola will be absent from the touchline as he recovers from back surgery, but that is unlikely to have a huge effect on City. A convincing away win is the way to go in this one.

Prediction: Manchester City -2.5 handicap at 2.44
