International football has been in the spotlight over the last few days with the Nations League finals and European Championship qualifiers, and there’s more of the latter on Tuesday.
Football expert Joe Crann has picked out three games that have caught his eye when it comes to compiling a football accumulator.
Kick-off: 7.45pm Tuesday
Scotland may not have expected to be top of Group A after three games, but that’s exactly where they find themselves after impressive wins against Cyprus, Spain and Norway.
They have conceded just once so far - a penalty from the unstoppable Erling Haaland - but even then managed to fight back to make it eight successful Euro qualifying games in a row.
It’s been over a year since they lost a competitive fixture, which is why they head into the clash with Georgia as favourites (1.5 to win). Back them to be sturdy at the back once again.
Prediction: Scotland to keep a clean sheet @ 1.85
Kick-off: 7.45pm Tuesday
It’s looking set to be a big night at Laugardalsvöllur in Reykjavik as the hosts seek a crucial win in the qualifying campaign against a Portuguese side that will hand Cristiano Ronaldo his 200th cap, which would make him the first men’s player to hit the landmark.
Given his incredible record over the years, it would be foolish to back against CR7 getting on the scoresheet in a huge milestone game (1.59 anytime). And Iceland’s recent form suggests they will struggle against a Seleção side that has scored 19 goals in their last five matches.
Under former manager Fernando Santos and new boss Roberto Martínez, Portugal have won both halves in four of their last five games. But I’ll take Portugal to win with over 2.5 goals instead.
Prediction: Portugal to win and Over 2.5 goals @ 1.9
Kick-off: 7.45pm Tuesday
It’s first versus third in Group F! Hosts Austria are unbeaten so far, and they can really stake their claim for a spot at Euro 2024 with another victory.
Ralf Rangnick’s side has enjoyed a strong run since their Nations League relegation last year, and have won four in a row before their very credible draw with the Belgians last week. However, they face a Sweden side with just one defeat in their last eight matches who will certainly put up a fight.
With so much on the line it’s entirely possible that the two teams cancel each other out for a draw (3.45). But, with neither side having been involved in a 0-0 for over two years, trends tell you there should be goals.
Prediction: Both teams to score - Yes @ 1.83
Scotland v Georgia: Scotland to keep a clean sheet @ 1.85
Iceland v Portugal: Portugal to win and Over 2.5 goals @ 1.9
Austria v Sweden: Both teams to score - Yes @ 1.83
