Can Manchester United recover from their record defeat at the hands of Liverpool when they face Southampton? That’s just one of four scintillating match-ups scheduled on Sunday, and Peter Galindo has a recommended bet for each game.
Kick-off: 2pm Sunday
The bright side for Manchester United is that their heavy defeat at Anfield last week might be their rock bottom this season, and rebounding against relegation-threatened Southampton could right the ship.
They importantly turned on the style in a 4-1 victory over Real Betis in the Europa League during the week, and it was interesting that Erik ten Hag stuck with the same lineup that lost at Anfield.
Southampton are experiencing a mini revival under Ruben Selles after winning two of their last three league matches, which includes a victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. It will be a tough task to follow suit at Old Trafford, where the Saints are winless in their last seven games.
However, Manchester United have scored under 2.5 goals in their last three matches against Southampton in all competitions. The visitors have only conceded once in their last three games, so this might be tighter than expected.
Prediction: Under 2.5 goals @ 2.36
Kick-off: 2pm Sunday
Unai Emery is slowly but surely leaving his mark on this Aston Villa side. They enter Sunday’s game after posting back-to-back league wins for just the third time this season, and with a pair of clean sheets to boot.
Villa are also getting comfortable outside of Villa Park. All four away victories have occurred within their last five away matches in the league, which bodes well ahead of their clash with West Ham United.
But West Ham haven’t lost at home in the Premier League in 2023, and it’s difficult to predict if Villa’s defence will hold up. Prior to the two recent clean sheets, they conceded 11 goals in games against Leicester City, Manchester City and Arsenal. The Hammers are a different proposition but this could be an entertaining affair.
Prediction: Over 3.5 goals @ 4
Kick-off: 2pm Sunday
Speaking of entertainment, Arsenal are guaranteed fun these days. Two come-from-behind victories over Bournemouth and Aston Villa have proven their mettle during this title race, and they will have another tricky test at Craven Cottage this Sunday.
This will be more menacing with the potential absences. Gabriel Jesus still isn’t fully fit, while Eddie Nketiah and Leandro Trossard are both doubtful. Last week’s hero Reiss Nelson will be included again.
Nelson made a dramatic impact off the bench in the dramatic win against Bournemouth and winger Gabriel Martinelli is heating up, too. The Brazilian has scored four goals in his last four Premier League appearances, and it could be time for him to step up again.
Prediction: Gabriel Martinelli anytime scorer @ 2.98
Kick-off: 4.30pm Sunday
This game screams scoreless draw - Newcastle are below-par in front of goal and Wolves’ desperation for points has resulted in cagey affairs.
Newcastle have seen under 2.5 goals in six of their last seven matches against Wolverhampton in all competitions, and the last four Wolves games have experienced a similar fate. It has all the makings of a sixth winless game in a row for the Magpies.
Prediction: Correct score - 0-0 @ 11
Manchester United v Southampton: Under 2.5 goals @ 2.36
West Ham United v Aston Villa: Over 3.5 goals @ 4
Fulham v Arsenal: Gabriel Martinelli anytime scorer @ 2.98
Newcastle United v Wolves: Correct score - 0-0 @ 11
