Sunday’s Premier League Tips: Man City can overcome Tottenham turmoil

5 February 2023

Massive games at each end of the Premier League table are in store for football fans on Sunday, and expert Peter Galindo has dug deep to provide his best bets.

Nottingham Forest v Leeds United

Kick-off: 2pm Sunday

Without earning headlines, Nottingham Forest have strung together a nice run of form with a current unbeaten streak of four games in the Premier League.

Of course, it would be folly not to mention that Forest will be reeling after a 5-0 aggregate defeat to Manchester United in the EFL Cup semi-finals. But their best performances have come against relegation candidates, which will be crucial to keep them afloat in England’s top division.

Meanwhile, Leeds United are winless in their last six Premier League games and find themselves just one point adrift of the relegation zone. Six of their last eight matches have featured over 3.5 goals, and their porous defence has proved the main talking point all season.

Despite that trend suggests plenty of goalmouth action, Forest’s matches tend to be pretty low scoring. Their last four games have produced under 2.5 goals and, considering the stakes, these sides will likely share the spoils in a cagey affair.

Prediction: Draw @ 3.5

Tottenham v Manchester City

Kick-off: 4.30pm Sunday

History tells you that Manchester City have struggled when playing away against Tottenham. Pep Guardiola hasn’t won any of his four visits to the London club’s home ground, which is the most against any team worldwide in his career.

However, come back to present times and it’s hard to believe that statistic will hold up. Tottenham have conceded at least twice in each of their last five Premier League home matches and they also allowed the first goal in each of those games.

That’s rather fitting given the divisive split between the first and second half this season for Spurs. If their Premier League games had ended after the first 45 minutes, Spurs would be seventh with 28 points. Conversely, second halves alone would leave them second in the table on 40 points.

The last meeting between these two clubs bucked the trend. Tottenham led 2-0 at halftime at the Etihad Stadium thanks to a pair of late first-half goals, only for City to storm back to win 4-2.

That’s the exception rather than the rule, so it would make sense to expect a fast start for City with Spurs pitching a resilient fight in the second half.

Prediction: Man City to win and both teams to score @ 3.2
