Sunday’s Premier League Tips: Man City can go top with comfortable Craven Cottage win

28 April 2023

There is a rare five-game slate of top-flight action on Sunday and football expert Peter Galindo has pinpointed the best bets for your Premier League accumulators.

Manchester United v Aston Villa

Kick-off: 2pm Sunday

It’s all come full circle for Aston Villa, who began their tremendous run of form against Manchester United in Unai Emery’s first game in charge as manager. Since then, Villa have won 13 of their 22 games in all competitions and European football looks like a real possibility.

On the flip side, Manchester United couldn’t be any more inconsistent. They coughed up a two-goal lead during the week against Tottenham and lost to Sevilla in the Europa League, yet they edged Brighton on penalties in the FA Cup semi-final.

Defensive injuries haven’t helped but, with the dam seemingly bursted, Villa might feel confident about claiming a result away from home. Ollie Watkins has scored six goals in his last eight games and, even though he didn’t get on the scoresheet at Brentford or at home to Fulham, this might be the time for him to regain his prolific form.

Prediction: Ollie Watkins anytime goalscorer @ 3.15

Fulham v Manchester City

Kick-off: 2pm Sunday

There is no stopping Manchester City these days - domestically or in the Champions League. The race for the treble is still on after their emphatic 4-1 win over Arsenal on Wednesday, which was their 11th victory in their last 12 matches in all competitions.

Pep Guardiola: Manchester City manager now has the title in his team's hands

After back-to-back wins, Fulham fell to Aston Villa in a narrow 1-0 loss during the week which means they have only won two of their last eight Premier League games. The Cottagers have only lost five matches on home soil in the league this season, but three of those defeats have come in their last six at Craven Cottage.

Given City’s red-hot form, there’s no reason why they can’t stroll out of West London with a comfortable win.

Prediction: Manchester City to score over 2.5 goals @ 1.3

Bournemouth v Leeds United

Kick-off: 2pm Sunday

Bournemouth’s massive victory over Southampton eases the pressure in the relegation battle, at least for now. That’s definitely not the case for Leeds United, who travel to the Vitality Stadium having lost four of their last five away games. They sit just one point above Leicester City, and anything but a win gives the Foxes a chance to leapfrog them.

Considering both sides need a result in the relegation battle, this could be quite cagey. The last contest between these two ended in a 4-3 win for Leeds, but that was in November and the pressure has been cranked up since.

Prediction: Under 2.5 goals @ 2.12

Newcastle United v Southampton

Kick-off: 2pm Sunday

Newcastle, who have scored 10 goals in their last two games, will welcome an out-of-sorts Southampton side who haven't won in eight games.

Both teams need a win for different reasons. Newcastle can strengthen their top-four ambitions, while Southampton could ignite an unlikely comeback to survive the drop.

The Saints held a 3-1 lead at Arsenal, but that was wiped away in the last 10 minutes and all hopes of staying up are all but extinguished. As a result, you shouldn’t be surprised if this turns into a goal-fest with Newcastle ultimately triumphing.

Prediction: Newcastle to win and Both teams to score @ 1.74

Liverpool v Tottenham

Kick-off: 4.30pm Sunday

Liverpool versus Tottenham is always an enthralling fixture. Four of the last five games have featured over 2.5 goals and, with the Reds being involved in some high-scoring affairs recently, you should expect that trend to continue.

Liverpool come into this game off the back of three straight wins against Leeds, Nottingham Forest and West Ham. Spurs' record at Anfield is dodgy, but they have scored in their last five visits despite winning none.

Prediction: Liverpool to win and Both teams to score @ 3
