SBK's Best Bets for 2024

As the year is winding down and our attentions begin to turn to New Year’s resolutions and sporting predictions for 2024. We have spoken to a selection of our writers to find out what their best bets for 2024.
Scott Thornton
Arsenal look well placed to take advantage of Manchester City’s troubles this season. They were eventually caught by Pep Guardiola’s side in the title race in the last campaign but City don’t look as though they are capable of a similar unrelenting winning run this term. Arsenal have looked exceptional at times and a few strong displays over the coming weeks could see them emerge as title favourites.
James Cantrill
Aston Villa were ante-post favourites to lift the Europa Conference League leading the betting at 4.9 in September. Fast forward three months and despite topping their group and launching a genuine Premier League title challenge, Unai Emery’s side have only shortened..
That price looks juicy to me considering they are already in the hat for the last-16 and they have a European connoisseur in the dugout.

These days you need a horse with a touch of class to win the National and as a previous Gold Cup winner (and runner-up) Minella Indo is just that.
He will be an eleven year old in 2024 but plenty of ten-year olds have placed in the National in recent years so age isn’t a barrier.
He looked rejuvenated when trying the cross-country race at Cheltenham in December running well under a big weight. I expect him to contest that race at the festival in March and he can use it as a springboard to the National as did dual winner Tiger Roll.

The Lions have proved they are well capable of mixing it with the best franchises in the league this year and, with best corner CJ Gardner Johnson returning to the fray, they can make a long and successful run in the playoffs. Perhaps the 49ers and Ravens have stronger claims, but 23.0 is an insult for this young and explosive Lions team.

Looking at the ante-post tennis markets, one man stands out for Wimbledon, namely Matteo Berrettini.
The Italian saw his 2022 campaign heavily disrupted by injuries but, assuming he regains fitness (and the signs from his camp are good), backing him now at 29 looks good business.
Berrettini has an outstanding record on grass, winning four ATP titles on the surface and reaching the Wimbledon final in 2021, so he’s likely to go off a lot shorter come July.
Scott Thornton: Arsenal to win the Premier League @ 3.55
James Cantrill: Aston Villa to win the Europa Conference League: 3.75
Ross Millar: Minella Indo to win the Grand National @ 51.0
Tom Collins: Detroit Lions to win Super Bowl 58 @ 23.0
Andy Schooler: Matteo Berrettini to win Wimbledon @ 29.0
