Tottenham will seek to bounce back from their midweek Champions League disappointment when they play host to Leicester on Saturday evening in the Premier League.
Antonio Conte’s side are undefeated in the league after winning four of their first six matches, and are unsurprisingly 1.51 favourites to overcome a Leicester side that could be set for a surprise relegation battle.
Brendan Rodgers’ men have lost five of their first six games and are just one of two winless sides in the top flight this season. Another defeat will raise questions over the manager’s future.
Are Tottenham the real deal this season? The postponement of last weekend’s fixture against Manchester City denied fans the chance to find out definitively whether they can mix it with the big boys.
As it stands, they have won a succession of matches that they would be expected to - home games against Southampton, Wolves and Fulham, plus a trip to Nottingham Forest - while they have drawn more testing fixtures against Chelsea and West Ham.
This is another match that they would anticipate three points from. After all, Spurs have won seven of their last nine against Leicester, including four of their last five at home. They have scored at least three times in each of these games.
Leicester, meanwhile, have had a frustrating campaign, which explains their price of 7.4 for this match. Brendan Rodgers was exasperated by his side’s lack of transfer activity this summer, and the upshot is that they have lost their last five after earning an opening day draw against Brentford.
The Foxes haven’t endured seven winless games at the start of a season since 1983. They finished 15th on that occasion, and while there remains the quality in their squad to push away from danger, the price of them to be relegated has been slashed to 2.94. The East Midlanders have grown used to competing for Europe, so this comes as something of a shock.
They have been particularly hapless away from home this season. In three matches, Leicester have conceded 11 times, but have at least shown some offensive quality by scoring five of their own.
With Tottenham strong at home and Leicester poor on the road, a reliable Spurs side should be backed to win this match. To that end, odds of 1.51 on the North Londoners appear to be generous.
For those wishing to chase longer odds, backing the home side to win in a game that produces over 2.5 goals appears a useful bet at the 2.02 mark. Given the way Leicester have been conceding on the road, there appears a good chance of this coming to fruition.
Equally, supporting Spurs to continue their streak of scoring at least three against Leicester at home is on offer at 2.42. With the Foxes having conceded four and five in two of their road trips this season, the home side will fancy their chances.
