Premier League Betting Tips: Who will find the scoresheet at Anfield?

8 March 2024

Europe took centre stage in midweek but it is back to domestic duty this weekend for an enthralling set of fixtures. The attention of the footballing world will be focussed on Anfield on Sunday. Liverpool host Manchester City, the title won’t be decided at Anfield this weekend but the result will have huge ramification. We have you covered for tips in this tipsheet.

Manchester United vs Everton

Kick-off: 12:30 Saturday, TNT Sports 1

Everton only have one win in their last 14 games and that came in the FA Cup yet they look painfully short in the 1x2.

Logic would suggest that makes Manchester United a bet but given the Red Devils injury issues I don’t want to side with the hosts on Saturday lunchtime, there is also the perils of backing the favourite in an early kick-off.

Goals look the best way in here.

There have been at least three in 10 of the last 12 games involving Man Utd and in the Premier League at Old Trafford, all bar three of their 13 fixtures have seen over 2.5 goals click.

The Toffee’s dismal form is largely down to their wasteful nature. Sean Dyche’s side are underperforming their xG (44.84) by just under 16 goals. Surely they will start taking their chances soon, surely.

Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.70

Arsenal vs Brentford

Kick-off: 17:30 Saturday, Sky Sports Main Event

Ben Mee’s ankle injury will keep him out for the foreseeable future, joining Ethan Pinnock who has a similar issue. The absence of two mainstays in the Bees defence is obviously terrible news for their backline which is unsettled anyway.

Brentford have only kept one clean sheet in their last 19 fixtures and four in all competitions this term.

Thai, combined with the rampend form of Arsenal is why taking the hosts with a -2 asian handicap appeals on Saturday evening.

The Gunners hit Sheffield United for six on Monday to win their seventh straight top flight game and have covered this line five.

Prediction: Arsenal Asian Handicap (-2) @ 2.0

Aston Villa vs Tottenham

Kick-off: 13:00 Sunday, Sky Sports Main Event

Unai Emery has juggled continental duty with the Premier League expertly this term. In the games following the Europa League, Aston Villa have taken 14 from the 18 on offer.

They have not kept a single clean sheet in those six games though and with both teams to score 1.37 on as I write, goals are clearly expected at Villa Park on Sunday.

Villa have only kept three league clean sheets on home soil, the last one came at the start of December.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have netted in all of their 26 league games this season. Their top goalscorer Heung-Min Son is worth a punt to net a brace, a feat he has managed twice this term.

Prediction: Heung-min Son Brace @ 8.8

Liverpool vs Manchester City

Kick-off: 15:45 Sunday, Sky Sports Main Event

Liverpool welcome Manchester City in a mouthwatering clash at Anfield. The pair have risen to the top of English football under the tutelage of Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola, exchanging blows and the league title since the pair of supremo’s came to English shores.

This will be the final league duel between Klopp’s Liverpool and Pep’s City at the Etihad with the former leaving at the end of the season, giving the clash even more gravitas.

As if that wasn’t enough, one point separates the pair at the top of the division.

So, all things considered, if Mohammed Salah is fit enough, he will start on Sunday. And if he starts, he looks a great price to score anytime.

The Reds talisman has netted 15 times this season, taking his all time Premier League tally to 154.

Prediction: Mohammed Salah Anytime Goalscorer @ 2.50

Chelsea vs Newcastle

Kick-off: 20:00 Monday, Sky Sports Main Event

Newcastle’s mini-resurgence went under my radar. The Toon have only lost three games since the turn of the year, all of which came against the three sides gunning for the title.

Against the rest Eddie Howe’s side have played eight, won five and this does not include progressing to the FA Cup quarter finals.

In the Premier League, they became the first side to win at Villa Park this season, winning at the City Ground and at home to Wolves. They also picked up points against Luton and Bournemouth.

Touting the visitors with a one goal headstart on the asian handicap appeals as it would take Chelsea to win by two goals for the bet to lose and given the Blues patchy form, this looks unlikely.

Prediction: Newcastle Asian Handicap (+1) @ 1.48
