After a hectic week on the continent, the Premier League returns for Gameweek 10. As the campaign passes the quarter threshold, the division is beginning to take shape. We have five picks from the slate.
Kick-off: 12:30 Saturday, TNT Sports 1
Despite their form since the turn of the year making for dismal reading, Chelsea look to have turned a corner. The Blues are unbeaten in four, winning three on the spin before drawing with Arsenal last Saturday.
The manner of the latter will feel like a defeat after Mauricio Pochettino’s side went two goals up, albeit fortuitously. The tide turned when Arsenal went more direct, an approach the Bees are capable of.
West London has been a happy hunting ground for Thomas Frank's side who have won each of their last two trips to Stamford Bridge by an aggregate scoreline of 6-1.
Prediction: Brentford double chance @ 2.38
Kick-off: 15:00 Saturday
Despite the fact Sheffield United prop up the table on one point and still await their first win, they have put in respectable displays against the ‘big six’. Each of their three games against Manchester City, Tottenham and Manchester United have ended 2-1 with the opposition scoring late.
The Blades head to the capital without Ollie McBurnie and the last time he was absent was the Newcastle game which does not bode well here. The big Scot is so pivotal to Paul Heckingbottom’s direct approach, it is difficult to see how the visitors will lay a glove on Arsenal in his absence. Sheff Utd have the worse xG (7.5) as it is.
Prediction: Arsenal to win to nil @ 1.76
Kick-off: 17:30 Saturday, Sky Sports
Paris Saint Germain beat Borussia Dortmund, Dortmund beat Newcastle and the Magpies thumped PSG. Champions League Group H has been dubbed the group of death and with good reason.
Eddie Howe’s side were edged by the German side on Wednesday, bringing them back to earth with a thud following their thrashing of PSG. How much these European nights will take out of the Toon remains to be seen, they lost Alexander Isak and Jacob Murphy to injury which should see Anthony Gordon keep his spot.
The winger has been a nuisance all campaign, picking up five cards in seven league starts this campaign.
Prediction: Anthony Gordon to be shown a card @ 3.6
Kick-off: 14:00 Sunday
Mohamed Salah has not clicked into top gear yet this campaign but has still managed to notch up seven goals as he clings to the coattails of Erling Haaland.
The Egyptian hit the double against Everton in the Merseyside derby last weekend, his second in as many games.
Anfield plays host to Nottingham Forest, a fixture the Reds have an implied probability of around 77% to win and are around even money to score thrice. With that considered, you would imagine their talisman is amongst the goals.
Prediction: Mohammed Salah anytime goalscorer @ 1.9
Kick-off: 15:30 Sunday, Sky Sports
Neither side covered themselves in glory on the eve of the first Manchester derby of the season.
Manchester United laboured to victory as they host Copenhagen on Tuesday, Harry Maguire scoring the only goal of the game but it was Andre Onana’s penalty save deep into stoppage time that secured the points.
Pep Guardiola shuffled his deck in Switzerland but with things all square at the break the Spanish supremo was forced to bring out the big boys. Young Boys goal meant that the Citizens have only kept one clean sheet on the road all campaign.
Since the turn of the year, Man City have only kept five clean sheets in 25 away games, they should have enough to edge this clash though.
Prediction: Man City to win and both teams to score @ 3.6
Back Brentford double chance @ 2.38
Back Arsenal to win to nil @ 1.76
Back Anthony Gordon to be shown a card @ 3.6
Back Mohammed Salah anytime goalscorer @ 1.9
Back Man City to win and both teams to score @ 3.6
