Premier League Betting Tips: Can Liverpool and Arsenal close the gap at the top?

The Premier League title race took a monumental twist last Sunday as both Liverpool and Arsenal lost to Crystal Palace and Aston Villa respectively. It puts Manchester City in the driving seat but with both them and Arsenal in Champions League action in midweek, we could see some more twists this weekend. With Man City in FA Cup semi-final action this weekend, the chasing pair have a chance to cover some ground. We have five tips for this weekend's action.

Sheffield United vs Burnley 

Kick off: 15:00 Saturday 

Don’t tell these two but it is all but confirmed that they will be plying their trade in the Championship next season. 

Sheffield United prop up the division, 10 points adrift from safety with four games to play and Burnley are four points ahead having played a game more. 

Credit to the pair, they remain spirited to the bitter end and I have no doubts they still harbour survival hopes which should lead to a full-blooded affair at Bramall Lane. 

Considering the Blades are one of the most cynical sides in the division and Anthony Taylor, a man who averages over five cards a game in this Premier League has the whistle, cards look the obvious route in. 

Oliver McBurnie looks as likely a man as any to have his name taken. The Scotsman has as many red cards (2) as he has yellows this term and received his marching orders in the reverse.

Wolves vs Arsenal 

Kick-off: 19:30 Saturday, Sky Sports

Wolves are experts against the big boys. 

Gary O’Neil’ seems to thrive when the onus is not on his Wanderers side, whether he thrives off of the siege mentality or his side are just more suited to counter attacking football (or both) I don’t no but what I do know is they give the divisions best sides a run for their money. 

This season, Wolves have squared off with the top five on seven times and are yet to lose by a three goal or bigger margin. 

Wolves completed the double over Tottenham, held Aston Villa and beat Manchester City on their own patch. Next up at Molineux is Arsenal. 

The Gunners were defeated at home to Villa last Sunday, massively denting their chances of a title. Mikel Arteta’s side also lost in Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday and that result must have some bearing on the trip to Black Country this weekend. 

Prediction: Wolves Win @ 8.80

Crystal Palace vs West Ham

Kick-off: 15:00 Sunday

West Ham head to Crystal Palace with only one clean sheet in the Premier League this year. That is 14 games played, 28 goals conceded. 

David Moyes’ men have had no issues at the other end though netting an average of over a goal a game. In the 21 games against sides below them in the table the Hammers have found the net in 76% of the games as well. 

As for Crystal Palace, since Oliver Glasner took charge, the Eagles have only failed to net against Bournemouth and this feat is made even more impressive by the fact their last two games were against Manchester City and Liverpool. 

Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.82

Fulham vs Liverpool 

Kick-off: 16:30 Sunday, Sky Sports

It was a pretty disastrous week for Liverpool last week, two defeats, no goals scored, all but out of the Europa League and two points off the pace in the Premier League. 

Where will that leave them ahead of this clash with Fulham? Probably tied and fatigue leads to mistakes. Even the faultless Virgil van Dijk isn’t immune. His slip last weekend almost allowed Crystal Palace to double their lead. 

Despite boasting the second best defensive record in the top flight (31 conceded) the Reds have not kept a clean sheet since their trip to the City Ground at the beginning of March. 

Sparta Prague (both legs), Sheffield United and Palace all netted against Liverpool over that nine game period. 

Goals should be expected 

Prediction: BTTS & Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.72
