Premier League Betting Tips: Will anyone's title charge stall this weekend

1 March 2024

In a weekend that sees the Manchester Derby take centre stage in the Premier League. Only two points separate City, Liverpool and Arsenal at the top as we approach the home straight. We have five top flight tips in this edition of the tipsheet.

Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool

Kick-off: 15:00 Saturday

It has been some week for Jurgen Klopp’s kids.

Liverpool lifted the EFL Cup on Sunday and then thumped Championship-promotion hopefuls Southampton on Wednesday.

The Reds may welcome back talisman Mohammed Salah and Darwin Nunez for the trip to Nottingham, bolstering their frontline.

Nottingham Forest had a contrasting result in the FA Cup, eliminated by Manchester United.

Nuno Espírito Santo named a strong XI at the City Ground with Morgan Gibbs-White and Taiwo Awoniyi both present.

I expect a goal-laden affair but an away win.

Prediction: Liverpool & BTTS @ 2.60

Luton vs Aston Villa

Kick-off: 17:30 Saturday, Sky Sports Premier League

Everton have had their 10-point deduction reduced to six, but nothing changed as far as Rob Edwards is concerned. He said he has been viewing the league without deductions which is probably a wise move given the uncertainty around the rules.

His Hatters side started the weekend four points adrift with a game in hand on the side above them.

The hosts games at Kenilworth Road have been ding-dong affairs with 19 scored and 22 conceded in 22 matches.

Luton have more than held their own against the biggest and best as well losing by one goal or less in their seven games against the top seven.

Expect a closely contested but goal heavy match on Saturday evening and with Aston Villa pretty obliging in the goals department, overs and both teams to score appeals.

Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals & BTTS @ 1.60

Burnley vs Bournemouth

Kick-off: 13:00 Sunday, Sky Sports Main Event

Bournemouth fans are sweating on the fitness of Dominic Solanke, whether Andoni Iraola actually is or not remains to be seen.

The Cherries frontman missed the FA Cup defeat to Leicester with a knee issue but I have my suspicions he should be fit to start at Turf Moor.

Solanke or not, the visitors look a massive price against Burnley. The Clarets are doing their best to be the worst side in the Premier League this term; no wins since Christmas Day, two wins since the beginning of October and only three wins all season.

Vincent Kompany’s side have conceded eight goals in their last two without replay and the scariest thing is, Bournemouth’s high octane style is perfectly suited to terrorise the hosts on Sunday.

Prediction: Bournemouth Win @ 1.99

Manchester City vs Manchester United

Kick-off: 15:30 Sunday, Sky Sports Main Event

The Manchester Derby takes centre stage on Sunday.

Manchester United have only won one of the last six meetings between the two sides.

Games at the Etihad make for uncomfortable viewing if you are a Man Utd fan, the last two league matches have seen the Cityzens net 10 times and at 1.28 on, SBK are expecting another City pasting.

Considering this, I’ve dipped into the goalscorer market.

City recently welcomed back Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland and the pair combined for four goals on Tuesday vs Luton. Just as important of a player to the City side is John Stones.

The Barnsley Beckenbauer has started the last three games in central midfield and although he is not famed for his goalscoring exploits, I think he is worth a tout to back vs United.

Prediction: John Stones Anytime Goalscorer @ 6.80

Sheffield United vs Arsenal

Kick-off: 20:00 Monday, Sky Sports Main Event

Sheffield United could not host Arsenal at a worse time.

The Gunners have not dropped a point in the league this year. That is six games, as many wins and a goal difference of +25.

Newcastle became the latest victims as Mikel Arteta’s side put four past them, it was Burnley the game before though and West Ham prior to that.

Since the turn of the year Arsenal have kept clean sheets against Crystal Palace, the Hammers and Burnley so should have no issues keeping the Blades at bay.

Prediction: Arsenal & BTTS ‘no’ @ 1.71
