We have cast an eye over the smattering of Premier League fixtures providing five bets each for this weekend's top flight games.
Kick-off: Friday 19:45, TNT Sports
They may not have the results to match but Burnley have improved over their last two games. The Clarets played the majority of the second half at Villa Park a man light but ran the title challengers close. Vincent Kompany’s backline was resilient against Tottenham before losing the tie to a wonder strike.
The switch to a more defensive set up was a long time coming but needed and with Lyle Foster, Burnley’s top goalscorer with four goals, a doubt here the hosts may lack a cutting edge.
A win would move Luton out of the relegation zone and seven points clear of Friday’s opponents. Given the magnitude of the clash I expect a cagey affair at Turf Moor, goals may be of a premium.
Prediction: Under 2.5 goals @ 1.94
Kick-off: Saturday 12:30, TNT Sports
This game comes sandwiched in between League Cup semi-final action for these teams. Both sides lost their first legs, Fulham will probably be the happier though. The Cottages led at Anfield but could not withstand a second half onslaught from Liverpool.
Chelsea come into this one off the back of a 1-0 defeat to Championship side Middlesbrough and though the tie is only at the halfway stage, Mauricio Pochettino will be feeling the pressure as his job could hinge on silverware.
The Blues have relied on the form of Cole Palmer in recent weeks, the Englishman started upfront on Tuesday but missed a couple of ‘big chances’ (xG greater than 0.30) which proved costly.
This was only the second time in 14 games the Blues have failed to find the net and with them only keeping three clean sheets over that period, both teams to score appeals here.
Prediction: Both Teams To Score @ 1.72
Kick-off: Saturday 17:30, TNT Sports
Newcastle avoided embarrassment in the Tyne-Wear derby cruising to a 3-0 victory over second tier rivals Sunderland in their last game.
It provided Eddie Howe with some respite as the Magpies had only won one of their previous eight games going into the clash.
As clear outsiders here, the bookies do not fancy them to make it two wins on the spin but they certainly have the firepower to bloody the nose of Manchester City.
Newcastle are amongst the division top scorers and have found the net 2.3 times per game at St James’ Park, bagging at least one in each of their 10 league games.
Pep Guardiola’s side have made a bit of a habit of conceding on the road this term. Only the 10 men of Burnley failed to find the net on opening day and Manchester United in a 3-0 defeat in October.
Prediction: Both Teams To Score @ 1.75
Kick-off: Sunday 14:00, Sky Sports
A sparse January schedule means this Aston Villa’s second of four games this month with a 13 day break after their trip to Goodison Park. A bit of recovery time will be welcome for Unai Emery as his side will be competing on three fronts, the Premier League, Europa Conference League and FA Cup for the remainder of the season.
The Villans broke their cup hoodoo thanks to a huge slice of fortune last weekend with Matty Cash’s deflected shot the difference against a stubborn Boro side.
Emery was forced to bring on the big hitters at the Riverside for the last 20 but with the majority of his side unchanged, Villa will still be sharp for this trip to Merseyside.
Villa have won 13 of their 20 league games and both teams have scored in 69% of those victories, combining the two is the bet here.
Prediction: Aston Villa To Win & BTTS @ 4.30
Kick-off: Sunday 16:30, Sky Sports
Tottenham look a big price to win at Old Trafford. No doubt, they are missing some important players though.
Heung-min Son, Pape Sarr and Yves Bissouma are at AFCON and a further seven players are unavailable with injuries.
Mickey van Ven will return to the heart of defence as could Cristian Romero, bolstering their back line.
Manchester United have injury issues of their own.
Erik ten Hag could be without no fewer than 12 players. Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Christian Erikson are all doubts. The hosts have only won two league games since the beginning of December so I’ll be siding with the visitors to get a result.
Prediction: Tottenham Asian Handicap (+0.5) @ 1.71
