Newcastle v Brighton Tips: Wilson can get on the scoresheet for flapping Magpies

European football remains the goal for Newcastle and Brighton, but before they know whether they have achieved their aim they will face off against one another first in an important midweek clash.
Despite Newcastle’s dipping form, Callum Wilson remains on fire with seven goals in his last five games, which includes three braces dating back to April 27.
This unstoppable run has now catapulted Wilson into the top five in the Premier League Golden Boot race with 17 goals. Only Erling Haaland (36), Harry Kane (27), Ivan Toney (20) and Mohamed Salah (19) have scored more than the 31-year-old this season.
The crazy part is that Wilson is slightly overachieving his expected goals (xG). And, while a small regression can be expected at some stage, this might not be the match where the flames are extinguished. Not only have there been over 2.5 goals scored in seven of Newcastle's last eight league matches, but Brighton have seen similar outputs in six of their previous seven as well.
Despite those aforementioned high-scoring matches for both teams, Brighton have kept three clean sheets in their last four matches, including against Arsenal and Manchester United.
The Toon might be able to snap that, though, especially given Wilson’s form. But it’s pretty impressive for Roberto De Zerbi’s side to remain stingy after dealing with so many injuries.
The Seagulls' last victory – a 3-0 triumph over Arsenal – came away from home and added to a solid record outside the Amex. Brighton have accumulated 28 points on the road in the league this season, which is only bettered by Arsenal (39), Manchester City (36) and, ironically, Newcastle (31).
Expect plenty of entertainment on Thursday. Newcastle can’t stop scoring, Brighton don’t seem to be fazed by playing away from home and there are several in-form players entering this game.
There’s a lot on the line and we could see both teams adopt a defensive press when their opponents are in possession. If that happens, Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo may be tasked with stopping attacks and I’m keen on backing him to be booked.
