It’s a bank holiday weekend in the UK, which means an extra day of Premier League football! Four relegation-threatened clubs are in action on Monday with potential ramifications looming from those results.
Kick-off: 3pm Monday
This match couldn’t have come at a better time for Leicester City. They are unbeaten in three straight games, while Fulham has lost their last three.
Fulham won the reverse fixture 1-0 thanks to a goal from Aleksandar Mitrovic, but he’s suspended for Monday’s game. Carlos Vinicius scored the Cottagers’ equaliser against Manchester City last time out and should start again in his absence. However, losing the man responsible for scoring 25% of the team’s goals is a killer blow.
Despite Leicester’s turnaround in recent weeks, they have still only picked up one win from their previous 12 games. Couple that with Fulham’s struggles and losing Mitrovic and this could be a cagey contest.
Prediction: Under 2.5 goals @ 2.14
Kick-off: 5.30pm Monday
Brighton left it super late on Thursday to exact revenge on Manchester United after their FA Cup semi-final defeat. That win also bolstered their fight for European football next season.
Everton, meanwhile, desperately need a result to boost their survival bid. It won’t help that Seamus Coleman has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, though.
That means the defence will be a bit more susceptible, which is music to Danny Welbeck’s ears. The England international has scored five league goals at home this season, including a brace in a recent 6-0 thumping over Wolves. Don’t put it past Welbeck to add to that tally here.
Prediction: Danny Welbeck anytime goalscorer @ 2.58
Kick-off: 8pm Monday
Southampton appear to be dead and buried. They are six points adrift of safety with four games remaining entering Monday’s contest with Nottingham Forest, although a win could add some intrigue to the battle at the bottom of the table.
Forest are level on points with Leeds United and could escape the relegation zone with a point. They’ve lost five of their last six games, but a 3-1 victory over Brighton highlights their relatively decent record at the City Ground. They’ve picked up 24 of their 30 points at home, so if there was ever a time to grab a vital result it’s Monday.
Normally relegation six-pointers can be scrappy and low-scoring, but there have been over 2.5 goals in Forest's last three league games. Expect some fireworks.
Prediction: Nottingham Forest to win @ 2.18
Fulham v Leicester City: Under 2.5 goals @ 2.14
Brighton v Everton: Danny Welbeck anytime goalscorer @ 2.58
Nottingham Forest v Southampton: Nottingham Forest to win @ 2.18
