Bank Holiday Monday will see Leicester City play host to Everton in a game that could have a huge say in deciding which team stays in the Premier League.
Both clubs have had a season to forget in the top-flight and, with just three games to play, they find themselves sat precariously in the relegation zone going into tonight’s fixture. A win for either would change that.
The Foxes have the slightly better record of the two teams so far with 29 points compared to Everton’s 28, and home advantage could mean a lot as they welcome Sean Dyche’s team to the King Power Stadium.
When you are having the sort of campaign that these two sides are enduring, victories tend to allude you. Leicester’s tag as favourites (2.06 to win) for this encounter is largely due to their superior home record in comparison to Everton’s strike-rate on the road. But that edge isn’t significant.
Only one team in the league possesses a worse record on home soil than Dean Smith’s side in the Premier League this season. They have picked up just 15 points, while barely averaging one goal a game. However, Everton have accumulated a meagre 10 points on the road all campaign and haven’t won any of their last 14 away matches.
With all that in mind, as well as what’s at stake, it would be no surprise to see a low-scoring and tight affair (under 2.5 goals is 2.02). But it is worth noting that even in defeat, Leicester have still tended to score of late.
Prior to this season, Leicester had strung together a bad run against the Toffees - they went five games without a win since 2020. But a 2-0 victory in November put an end to that trend and banished any worries they might have.
Everton have had the upper hand over the years with 45 wins over Leicester, though it’s been a long time since they’ve been as vulnerable as they are right now. Both teams have scored in 17 of their previous 22 meetings - it’s 1.82 that happens again.
Leicester’s iconic number nine, Jamie Vardy, has had a tough season, so much so that it will end up being his lowest-scoring campaign in almost a decade. You could see how much his goal against Leeds United meant to him and it would take a brave punter to bet against him ending the season with a bit of a flourish.
Vardy’s best days are now behind him, but with Leicester’s Premier League status on the line there’s a chance that he steps up his game.
