EFL Betting Tips and Preview: Huddersfield Town backed to end streak as box office Wrexham visit Bradford City

20 October 2023

So that’s that, England and Scotland have qualified for the 2024 European Championships, Wales still have a chance, and the Republic of Ireland have themselves a predicament, but for now it’s back to domestic football.

Over in the English Football League there have been plenty of changes in the last couple of weeks… Managers have left and others have been appointed – but one thing remains the same – Mansfield Town are still unbeaten.

As always we’ve picked three intriguing games for the weekend ahead to have a closer look at.

Championship:

Huddersfield Town v Queens Park Rangers

Kick off: 3pm Saturday

It’s another chance for Darren Moore to get his first win as Huddersfield boss, and on home soil - with QPR on a torrid run – he’ll be hoping that they can live up to the favourites tag. They’re at 1.99 to win compared to the visitors at 4.1.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss has seen his side draw three of their four games since his arrival, but against his former club in their last game they managed to secure their first clean sheet. Against a Rangers side with two goals in their last five there will be a desire to get another one (2.66).

Meanwhile, pressure is starting to build up around Gareth Ainsworth after three straight defeats and eight goals conceded, and if results go against them this week then they could end up dropping further into the relegation zone. They’re at 2.28 to win either half.

Prediction: Huddersfield to win @ 1.99

League One:

Peterborough United v Wycombe Wanderers

Kick off: 3pm Saturday

There are a couple of reasons why Peterborough are tipped to win this one (1.81). The first is that they’re unbeaten in six League One fixtures, the other is that Wycombe have kept only two clean sheets on the road in the league since back in March.

Both sides have been good for both teams to score markets this season - it’s at 1.71 for that to happen again – but the Posh have kept five clean sheets in their last seven home games across all competitions and have had five different goalscorers in their last five games.

Home advantage and the presence of Jonson Clarke-Harris should see them through.

Prediction: Peterborough to win and under 3.5 goals @ 2.6

League Two:

Bradford City v Wrexham

Kick off: 3pm Saturday

One thing we’ve learned about Wrexham over the last couple of years is that they’re genuinely box office. They only have a goal difference of +2 after 13 games despite scoring 27 goals in their first campaign back in the EFL, and Elliott Lee is almost in double figures already.

Bradford’s disjointed start saw them part ways with Mark Hughes, and despite three wins in three across League Two and the Papa John’s Trophy they are still slight underdogs at 3.05 at Valley Parade.

The Red Dragons will be flying high on confidence after coming back from two goals down to beat Salford City, and eight of their league fixtures this season so far have ended up with over 3.5 goals – six of them have seen five or more.

Prediction: Over 2.5 goals @ 1.91

Recommended Bets
