The Championship returns on Wednesday, which means more picks and tips from football league expert Jack Goddard. Read on to find some value bets with his Championship predictions.
Kick-off: 7.45pm Wednesday
Newly promoted Wigan are currently on a great run, losing only to high-flying Reading in their last five games. The Latics are now up to tenth in the Championship table, two points off a play-off place.
Leam Richardson’s side owe their solid league position mainly to their incredible away form. They’ve won their last four games on the road, and sit top of the league’s away table, with 13 points from their five games so far.
Hull, meanwhile, are in freefall. Even the dismissal of manager Shota Arveladze on Friday couldn’t stop the rot, as the Tigers slipped to a fifth successive defeat - a 2-0 home loss to Luton. They’ve also not scored in three games at the MKM Stadium.
The form book could not be any clearer in its prognosis here: Wigan will surely claim all three points.
Prediction: Wigan to win @ 2.92
Kick-off: 7.45pm Wednesday
However long it may last, the Slaven Bilic era at Watford got off to a brilliant start on Sunday. The Hornets pummeled Stoke 4-0 away from home to immediately be back on the precipice of the top six.
Of course, Watford were hardly a club in crisis under Rob Edwards, and were averaging two points per home game before the former manager’s dismissal - they even managed victories over table-toppers Sheffield United and fourth-place Burnley.
Swansea have massively improved in recent weeks, thanks in part to their solid away form. Russell Martin’s side have only lost one game on the road this season, but the Hornets will pose their sternest test so far.
Watford’s last three managers in the Championship won their first home game at Vicarage Road - I reckon Bilic will repeat the trick here.
Prediction: Watford to win @ 1.96

Kick-off: 7.45 pm Wednesday
Burnley are quickly becoming the Championship’s draw specialists, with their six ties so far only bettered by West Brom’s seven. The Clarets have drawn five of their 11 games this season 1-1.
As a result, seven of Burnley’s last eight league games have seen both teams score, with Vincent Kompany’s side only capable of keeping a clean sheet at home to Millwall in that stretch - the team’s only shutout since the opening day.
That should encourage Stoke, who aren’t exactly scoring freely this term. They’ve failed to score in each of their last two matches, but have still netted in seven of their 11 matches up to this point.
Even considering the Potters’ less than glamorous record, it’s worth noting that Burnley are the only side to concede a goal at Deepdale this season (we’ll get on to that very shortly) - so both teams should still score here.
Prediction: Both teams to score @ 1.89
Kick-off: 8pm Wednesday
As you may have heard, Preston have only scored once at Deepdale all season. That single goal came in North End’s care-free, hair-to-the-wind stage of the season, where their supporters were treated to two goals in three games. Sadly, the Lilywhites are now goalless in two again.
West Brom actually have quite the opposite problem, with 34 goals in their 11 matches so far (27 more than Preston) - so this game seems a bit like an unstoppable force v immovable object scenario.
North End haven’t played out a single league game with more than two goals so far, though - and I feel that will continue. The Baggies are no doubt creating plenty of chances (their average xG of 2.01 is second only to Norwich), but they simply can’t win games anyway - I don’t see that changing against this defence.
Prediction: Under 2.5 goals @ 1.67
Hull City v Wigan Athletic - Wigan to win @ 2.92
Watford v Swansea City - Watford to win @ 1.96
Burnley v Stoke City - Both teams to score @ 1.89
Preston North End v West Bromwich Albion - Under 2.5 goals @ 1.67
