Champions League Tips: Celtic should secure a vital victory on Tuesday

10 October 2022

Three British clubs will be in action on Tuesday as matchday four of the 2022/23 Champions League gets underway. Greg Lea details his Champions League tips and predictions.

FC Copenhagen v Manchester City

Kick-off: 5.45pm Tuesday

Manchester City made light work of FC Copenhagen in the reverse fixture last week as they ran out 5-0 winners at the Etihad Stadium. That result maintained City’s 100% strike-rate in the Champions League group stage this year, and another victory would confirm their place in the round of 16 with two games to spare.

A shock home result for the Danish side isn’t easy to envisage, especially when Pep Guardiola’s side appears almost unbeatable in all competitions at the moment. With a trip to Liverpool on the horizon this weekend, Guardiola will encourage his team to make a fast start in Denmark in a bid to wrap up the win early and it could be over by half-time.

Prediction: Manchester City to score more than 1.5 goals in the first half @ 2.32

AC Milan v Chelsea

Kick-off: 8pm Tuesday

Chelsea were excellent in a 3-0 victory over AC Milan on matchday three. It was an important win for Graham Potter’s side and allowed them to jump up to second place in Group E. However, Milan were strangely subdued on the night and will surely pose a stiffer test at the San Siro, where they beat Juventus on Saturday.

The reigning Italian champions have scored in all six of their home games in all competitions this term. Add that to the increased attacking threat from the Londoners since Potter took over and goals should be on the cards in this one.

Prediction: Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals @ 2.1

Borussia Dortmund v Sevilla

Kick-off: 8pm Tuesday

Borussia Dortmund tightened their grip on second place in Group G with a thumping 4-1 triumph over Sevilla last week, after which Julen Lopetegui was relieved of his duties at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Sevilla are now under the management of Jorge Sampaoli, who is back for a second spell at the helm of the club.

Borussia Dortmund can record another Champions League victory

Dortmund will be full of belief after a fantastic comeback saw them draw 2-2 with Bayern Munich on Saturday. Meanwhile, Sampaoli has not had much time to get his ideas across to the current Sevilla squad. A comfortable home win at Signal Iduna Park is in the offing.

Prediction: Borussia Dortmund half-time/full-time @ 2.4

Celtic v RB Leipzig

Kick-off: 8pm Tuesday

Celtic need to put points on the board if they are to reach the knockout stages of this competition. Ange Postecoglou’s squad has picked up just one point from their first three games and another defeat by Leipzig here would leave them on the brink of elimination.

Celtic are a different proposition at Parkhead, though, while RB Leipzig’s record on their travels is dismal - six Bundesliga and Champions League away games have resulted in two draws and four defeats. Football betting is all about value and Celtic’s price is too good to overlook.

Prediction: Celtic to win @ 3.35

Shakhtar Donetsk v Real Madrid

Kick-off: 8pm Tuesday

After winning their first three games, Real Madrid have one foot in the last 16 of the Champions League, a competition that they are striving to win for a 15th time. Los Blancos beat Shakhtar Donetsk on home turf last time out, but a 2-1 scoreline made for a closer game than many people had expected.

Madrid’s two previous wins in Group F featured clean sheets, as did their 1-0 victory over Getafe in LaLiga at the weekend. A win to nil for the holders is the way to go here.

Prediction: Real Madrid to win to nil @ 2.54
