Champions League Betting Tips: Who will book their place in the quarter finals

5 March 2024

It is time for the Champions League Round of 16 second legs. While most of the first legs went to form, Bayern Munich find themselves trailing going into tonight’s action.

Bayern Munich vs Lazio

Tuesday, 20:00, TNT Sports 1

It’s been a turbulent start to 2024 at Bayern Munich. Their poor form means their pursuit for a 12 consecutive Bundesliga title is all but over. They also find themselves a goal behind coming into their second leg with Lazio. Despite Munich’s difficulties, I’m betting they’ll overcome the first-leg deficit and win by the required margin here.

Thomas Tuchel’s side are averaging 1.72 more goals than their opponents across their 19 home matches in all competitions this season.  They know they need at least two goals to prevent extra time here so expect them to come out swinging.

Lazio have won just one of their last nine away matches in Europe across the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League. They look to be up against it at the Allianz on Tuesday night.

Tip:  Bayern Munich -1.5 Asian handicap @ 1.84

Real Sociedad vs PSG

Tuesday, 20:00, TNT Sports 2

Real Sociedad also have a first-leg deficit to overcome. They need to find two goals to draw level so I’m expecting goals here. Sociedad lost 3-2 at the weekend and their match against PSG also looks primed for goals. Alguacil’s side were unable to manage a shot on target in the first leg but they’ll have to throw the kitchen sink at the Parisiens here.

Both teams have scored in 10 of PSG’s last 10 European away matches. Over that period, there has been an average of 3.09 goals per game; 1.27 for PSG and 1.82 for the opposition. Luis Enriqu’s side have failed to score in just two of their last 14 matches on the road.

Tip: Both teams to score at 1.74

Real Madrid vs RB Leipzig

Wednesday, 20:00, TNT Sports 2

Real Madrid have a lead to defend coming into the second leg I’m still happy to bet them at -1 on the Asian handicap. This means we will get our stake returned should this win by a single goal.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are unbeaten at the Santiago Bernabeu this season. They are averaging 2.56 goals per game and conceding just 0.72 across those 18 matches. They won all three of their group-stage matches in front of their own fans. This bet would have won in two of those, the other would have seen us get our money back.

Since the start of the 2020/21 campaign, RB Leipzig have played two away matches in the knockout stages of the Champions League. They have lost those matches by an aggregate score of 9-0.

Tip: Real Madrid Asian handicap -1 at 1.96

Manchester City vs Copenhagen

Wednesday, 20:00, TNT Sports 1

It was one-way traffic as Manchester City brushed aside Manchester United at the Etihad on Sunday. We are expecting the same once again as they welcome FC Copenhagen. We can back the home side to have at least four more corners than their opponents at odds of 1.65 here.

City on the corner count 6-2 in the away leg. Their numbers in recent home matches provide an even greater insight.  Pep Guardiola’s side have played six matches at the Etihad in 2024. They are averaging 10.67 corners per game over that period and conceding just 1.17.

Copenhagen won just one corner and conceded seven when they played at this stadium back in 2022.

Tip: Manchester City -3.5 corner handicap at 1.65
