Europe’s biggest and best are back in action this week, and two hopefuls from the Premier League are going into Tuesday night’s games in very different form.
Manchester United and Arsenal are the two English sides who will have eyes on them, and it’s an opportunity for the Red Devils to lift the gloom after a torrid few weeks over in M16.
We’ve selected a game from each of the groups and taken a look at how things could possibly play out…
Group A
Kick off: 8pm Tuesday
There’s a clear favourite for this one, with the hosts at 1.48 for victory, but having watched Crystal Palace win at Old Trafford over the weekend Galatasaray will be looking at this game as a chance to cause an upset.
The Super Lig side are on a strong run of form in recent months, and haven’t lost a competitive game since April when they were beaten by Besiktas, and they’ve only failed to score on one occasion in 2023 so far. Both teams to score in this one? 1.85.
Erik ten Hag’s side are far from infallible at home having lost two of their last three games there, but they’ll be desperate to get their CL campaign up and running after defeat to Bayern Munich in their first game.
Prediction: Manchester United to win and both teams to score @ 3.1
Group B
Kick off: 8pm Tuesday
Mikel Arteta’s Gunners are on the crest of a wave at present having won all but two of their matches across all competitions so far this season, and their last outing in Europe ended up in a 4-0 romp over Dutch outfit, PSV.
Lens have had a torrid start to the season – which is why they’re at 5.8 to win this one – but victory in their last two matches will give them a bit more confidence that they could get something out of this tie at Stade Bollaert-Delelis.
Arsenal have won four on the bounce on the road, and while three of them have been 1-0s, they have Bukayo Saka in excellent form – he’s at 3.2 to score anytime in France.
Prediction: Over 2.5 goals @ 1.8
Group C
Kick off: 8pm Tuesday
The reigning Italian champions welcome the CL’s most successful team of all time on Tuesday night, and with home advantage on their side and Victor Osimhen still in fine form despite the off-field debacles, they’ll feel they’ve got a chance.
It’s seen as a close encounter with Los Blancos slight favourites at 2.68 compared to 2.72 for the hosts, and both go into the game in strong form. One defeat each all season has seen them stake early claims for the title race in Serie A and LaLiga, and they’ve scored eight and five goals respectively in their last two matches. Both teams to score at 1.63 might be worth a look on an accumulator.
Prediction: Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals @ 1.99
Group D
Kick off: 8pm Tuesday
Top of the table and fresh off a 4-0 victory over Salernitana, Inter will be very confident as they play host to Benfica, and the fact that the Portuguese outfit were seen off by Red Bull Salzburg in their opening group game gives them extra reason to be so.
A morale-boosting win over rivals, Porto, at the weekend means that As Águias at least go to Italy on the back of a win, but they’re at 2.46 to even win either half at the San Siro. 35-year-old Angel Di Maria remains their biggest threat despite entering into the twilight of his illustrious career.
The hosts also have a certain Lautaro Martinez who is in crazy form with 10 goals in his last eight games, including a quartet of goals in less than 30 minutes at the weekend – he’s at 2.4 as anytime goalscorer here.
Prediction: Inter Milan to win and over 2.5 goals @ 2.82
Back Manchester United to win and BTTS @ 3.1
Back over 2.5 goals in RC Lens v Arsenal @ 1.8
Back BTTS and over 2.5 goals in Napoli v Real Madrid @ 1.99
Back Inter Milan to win and over 2.5 goals @ 2.82
