Champions League Betting Tips: Newcastle host Dortmund, PSG play Milan and Manchester City play Young Boys

24 October 2023

The Champions League resumes this week and we have previewed five key games taking place on Wednesday.

Barcelona vs Shakhtar Donetsk

5.45pm, TNT Sports 1

Xavi Hernandez has made Barcelona a mean defensive outfit. They only conceded 20 goals en route to the La Liga title last term, and have already kept seven clean sheets in their 12 matches in all competitions in 2023/24.

Two of those shut-outs came in the Champions League, as Barcelona beat Antwerp and Porto without conceding. Shakhtar Donetsk may also come up short when it comes to breaching Barcelona’s backline on matchday three.

Tip: Barcelona to win to nil at 1.89

Celtic vs Atletico Madrid

8pm, TNT Sports 3

Celtic Park always gives the Scottish giants a chance. When they take on Atletico Madrid in Spain next month, Celtic will be huge outsiders. But because of the atmosphere generated at their home stadium on European nights, we cannot write them off entirely on Wednesday.

Still, this will be a tough game for Brendan Rodgers’s side, who have lost two out of the two in Group E. Atletico have won six games on the bounce in all competitions and they will fancy their chances of a seventh successive victory here.

Tip: Atletico Madrid to win at 2.04

Newcastle United vs Borussia Dortmund

8pm, TNT Sports 2

Newcastle’s 4-1 thrashing of Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month will live long in the memories of their supporters. It was a fantastic performance from the Magpies, who completely dominated one of the contenders to win the Champions League.

Newcastle also overwhelmed Crystal Palace with their energy and intensity at the weekend. Borussia Dortmund are a superior side to Roy Hodgson’s outfit, but they too could struggle to hold this relentless Newcastle team at bay.

Tip: Newcastle to win at 1.81

Paris Saint-Germain vs AC Milan

8pm, TNT Sports 4

PSG are desperate to finally win the Champions League for the first time, but they still have work to do in a competitive Group F. A victory over Borussia Dortmund on matchday one was followed by that demolition by Newcastle last time out.

AC Milan were the better team in both of their previous games, yet they are sitting on two points from six. The Rossoneri are difficult to beat, though, and we reckon they will avoid defeat at the Parc des Princes.

Tip: AC Milan or draw at 2.04

Young Boys vs Manchester City

8pm, TNT Sports 1

Manchester City beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 at the weekend, putting the defeat by Arsenal before the international break behind them. The reigning European champions are sitting pretty at the summit of the Group G standings and Wednesday’s trip to Bern should be negotiated without too much fuss.

Even if Pep Guardiola rotates ahead of the Manchester derby, City have enough attacking firepower to ease to victory over Young Boys.

Tip: Manchester City to score over 2.5 goals at 1.89
